Digital Process 6 explores emergent design strategies with a focus on morphogenesis and form finding. Contemporary scientific visualization provides us with a framework to understand and implement the visual codes of nature. Using Darcy Thompson’s seminal book On Growth and Form we will consider typology and morphology  as a working model to develop these systems. Students will learn to see the computer as a means to grow and harvest ideas and thusly topics will center on this rich relationship of the d2a (digital to analogue) . These techniques will enable the student to deal with both the seaming complexity of an algorithmic workflow while at the same time enabling them to arrive at such results through simplicity. Such optimization prepares such design strategies for material fabrication. These digital designs will then be translated to physical models, using rapid prototyping machines to be tested in real-world settings.
